Family First (NZ) Joins Call to Ban “Eroticised Violence against Women” Video

January 26, 2011 by SPCS Leave a Comment

Family First (NZ), a registered charity with the NZ Charities Commission, has joined the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women International and the US-based Media Watch, in calling for a ban on an upcoming music video they say features “Eroticised Violence against Women”. The Society (SPCS), while not having viewed the “video teaser”, would like to see the publication promptly referred to the Acting Chief Censor, Ms Nicola McCully, for classification.

Censors protecting the “public good” from morally toxic computer games

November 16, 2010 by SPCS Leave a Comment

The just released 2009/10 Annual Report of the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) has highlighted a computer game that the Office has recently banned. In its summary of reasons for the decision it states:

“The game presents still images and text that legitimises sexual violation and rape in a manner that is intended to sexually arouse the player who takes on the role of a rapist who preys primarily on school girls… Sexual violation and rape are essential to complete the game in its entirety”.

The Society considers it important that the public be made aware of the nature of the objectionable corrupting publications that are being produced for the commercial market by hard core pornographers and others bent on profiteering by the exploitation of people with addictions to moral vices etc.

The public needs to learn about the vital role played by our Classification Office  to  ensure that such morally corrupting material that injures the “public good” is banned. For this reason it has sought over the last ten years to recommend quality, well-qualified people for nomination to the Film and Literature Board of Review that deals with appeals against classification decisions issued by the OFLC.

John M Carr, Eden Digital Ltd, Banned Sex DVDs and the US-NZ Connection

November 1, 2010 by SPCS Leave a Comment

John Malcolm Carr (see photos links below), director of the NZ registered company Eden Digital Ltd, resides in the United States, the country of origin of many of the DVDs containing sexually explicit content that his hardcore porn distribution company imports into New Zealand.

Photo 2: http://www.bankler.com/AboutUs/JohnMCarr/tabid/130/Default.aspx

A significant number contain “a high degree of degrading, dehumanising and demeaning sexual conduct which, combined with the manner of presentation of this conduct, results in the women involved, and by extension women in general, being highly degraded, dehumanised and demeaned”(see full report below).

Of the seven DVDs Eden Digital submitted for classification to the OFLC that were clasified during the month of September this year, two were classified “objectionable” (i.e. they were banned) based on their depiction of sexual content that degraded women. No opportunity was given for Mr John M Carr’s company to make any excisions. Of the remaining five DVDs imported by Mr John M Carr’s company, two contained sexually degrading content that had to be removed (excised) before the publications could be issued a label allowing for distribution within New Zealand. This was done and advertisements were added promoting the NZ hardcore porn magazine NZX published by banned company director Steve Crow. The other three DVDs focused exclusively on sexually explicit content but did not require excisions before they could be distributed.

Mr John M Carr, whose most recent entries on his websites (www.johnmcarr.com and www.carr.co.nz) were in 2006, is recorded as a certified public accountant (CPA) based in San Antonio, Texas. He is both a NZ and US citizen. As the Society stated on page 4 of its December Newsletter (available on its website):

“In short, the porn sleaze money trail extends from the registered offices of Eden Digital Ltd and Velocity Partners Ltd in North Shore, Auckland, (both properties owned by – Kinetiq Ltd – directed by John M Carr and owned by Velocity Partners Ltd – also directed and owned by Carr) right across the blue Pacific to John M. Carr’s business address in sunny sexy San Antonio Texas.”

The “Texas-Godzone Connection” as we referred to it on page 14 of the December Newsletter, is a “sleaze money trail”, involving US porn directors Antom Slayer, Oliver Brand, Vincent Voss, Stoney Curtis, numerous porn stars and their promoters (see Eden Digital imported DVDs below). [Read more…]

Porn King’s Billboard Banned. Wiliam Mace. BusinessDay.co.nz

Porn king Steve Crow’s latest affront to society – a moving billboard displaying an image of a “woman’s naked pelvic area with a halved melon” positioned in front of it – has been banned by the Advertising Standards Complaints Board.

The woman appears to be “simulating female masturbation”, says the ASCB.

The advertisement was strategically placed on a mobile billboard and towed around Auckland’s streets in the lead up to Crow’s annual Erotica Lifestyles Expo during August. The Erotica website said the company’s phones had run hot with calls from people either loving or hating the ad.
