In the light of Statistics New Zealand’s latest figures showing that 18,380 abortions were performed in the year ended 31 December 2007, Society president John Mills is very angry and says:
“By far the most dangerous place for a developing child to be in New Zealand is inside their mother’s womb. I expect the anti-smacking brigade, such as Green MP Sue Bradford and the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon. Helen Clark who are so opposed to child abuse, would whole heartedly agree with me on this issue!”
The general abortion rate (abortions per 1000 women aged 15 to 44 years) increased from 19.6 in 2006 to 20.1 in 2007. It is noteworthy that women aged 20 to 24 – well informed as adults on methods of contraception – had more abortions than any other age group.
The growth rate in abortions for 2007 is 2.5 per cent more than for 2006. Considering that New Zealand’s average economic growth rate for 1984-1994 was 1.5% per annum, this is a bumper batch of butchered babies – a real success story for the abortion industry driven by so-called women’s health advocates such as Women’s Health Action Trust director, Jo Fitzpatrick. She says her trust would welcome revision of the law so that even more abortions – baby killing – could be carried out.

Someone needs to be held to account for such brutal murders carried out every day in New Zealand with taxpayers’ funding. Angry women’s health advocates such as Women’s Health Action Trust director, Jo Fitzpatrick, and Family Planning chief executive, Jackie Edmond, are quoted in today’s NZPA report (Dom Post 11/06), as rejecting anti-abortion lobbyists’ claims that New Zealand effectively has “abortion on demand”. And yet this is exactly what a High Court judge’s ruling, made public yesterday, suggests, and backs up what Dr Christine Forster, Chairperson of the Abortion Supervisory Committee (ASC) has conceded.

The blonde teenager, waiting to go into the operating theatre, is 16 years old and nearly 16 weeks pregnant. She’ll be one of up to 60 women having an abortion that day at the Marie Stopes clinic in south London.
She realised she was pregnant about eight weeks earlier, but couldn’t pluck up the courage to tell her mother. The weeks ticked by. She agonised over what to do: she had plans to go to college; her boyfriend said he’d stand by her whatever she decided.
She had considered having an abortion in secret, but eventually her mum guessed and made the appointment for her.
The abortion she’s about to have would be illegal in many European countries, where the time limit is 12 weeks, unless the foetus is severely disabled or the mother’s life is at risk.
But in Britain, abortions performed for those critical health reasons accounted for only 2 per cent of the 200,000 abortions carried out last year.
