What WILL it take for Google to block child porn? – The Daily Mail asks.

June 1, 2013 by SPCS Leave a Comment

What WILL it take for Google to block child porn? Jailed for life yesterday, April Jones’s murderer is the latest child killer to use the internet to fuel his perversion. John Carr of the Children’s Charities’ Coalition on Internet Safety said: ‘If these images were not available on the internet then men like Hazell and Bridger might not go on to kill.

  • Follows revelation that Tia Sharp’s killer downloaded child abuse images
  • Calls for search sites to crack down on how paedophiles can feed fantasies
  • April’s parents sat silently during verdicts – Bridger nodded and stared up
  • Murderer given rare ‘whole-life’ prison term, meaning he will never leave jail
  • Judge calls him ‘paedophile’ with ‘sexual and morbid fantasies about girls’

Daily Mail Online Story by Paul Bentley, Paul Harris and Keith Gladdis. 30 May 2013.

Google and Microsoft last night faced demands to act over the shocking ease with which child killer Mark Bridger used the internet to fuel his perversion.

Bridger, sentenced yesterday to spend the rest of his life in jail for murdering five-year-old April Jones, had a sickening library of violent child pornography.

It follows the revelation that Stuart Hazell, the man convicted earlier this month of killing 12-year-old Tia Sharp, regularly downloaded child abuse images on his mobile phone.

Children’s charities and online protection experts are now calling for search sites to crack down on the way paedophiles can feed their fantasies with simple online searches.

Bridger used the search engines Google and Bing, which is owned by Microsoft, to look up terms including ‘naked five-year-old girls’, ‘nudism five-year-olds’ and ‘pictures of naked virgin teens’.

He also used Facebook to access  photographs of local girls, including  April and her half-sisters aged 13 and 16, and went online to save images of murdered Soham schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.

Child safety charities, including the NSPCC, demanded that the internet giants introduce immediate controls to stop paedophiles gaining access to child pornography.

John Carr of the Children’s Charities’ Coalition on Internet Safety said: ‘If these images were not available on the internet then men like Hazell and Bridger might not go on to kill.

Children’s Commissioner for England: pupils ‘raised on a diet of porn’

May 25, 2013 by SPCS Leave a Comment

A generation of children are developing permissive attitudes to sex and viewing women as objects after being raised on a “diet of pornography”, a major [British] study has found.

For the first time, the Children’s Commissioner for England has found a clear link between exposure to extreme images at a young age and a rise in “risky behaviours”.

It emerged that children who regularly viewed pornography were more likely to have underage sex, develop “casual and hedonistic” attitudes, experiment with drink and drugs and indulge in sexting – when compromising pictures are taken and passed on using camera phones.

Boys were much more likely to be exposed to porn than girls, it was revealed, resulting in “beliefs that women are sex objects”.

The study – based on a large-scale review of international evidence – also found some evidence of a relationship between explicit images and a rise in sexual aggression and harassment of the opposite sex.

Dr Maggie Atkinson, the Children’s Commissioner, warned that “violent and sadistic imagery” was readily available among “very young children” because of easy access to the internet on home computers, tablets and mobile phones.

It was claimed that many children aged just 10 upwards accidentally accessed “violent and sadistic imagery” while undertaking legitimate research.

“For years we have applied age restrictions to films at the cinema but now we are permitting access to far more troubling imagery via the internet,” she said.

“We do not fully understand the implications of this. It is a risky experiment to allow a generation of young people to be raised on a diet of pornography.”

The report called for the introduction of compulsory sex and relationships education in primary and secondary schools, including modules on the dangers of pornography.

It follows similar calls in recent weeks by the National Association of Head Teachers and Ofsted, which claimed that too many existing lessons were of poor quality.

Speaking at the launch of the report in central London, Sue Berelowitz, the Deputy Children’s Commissioner, also called on parents to avoid taking a “zero tolerance” attitude towards pornography, saying that the introduction of hard-line rules prevented children raising legitimate questions when they do access sexual images.

She added: “Some parents and carers simply will not take responsibility for discussing healthy relationships and sexual health with their children… Education is the only universal lever we have to ensure all children are safeguarded against the possible impact of pornography.”

The study – carried out by academics from the universities of Middlesex, Bedfordshire, Canterbury Christchurch and Kent – was based on an in-depth analysis of 276 pieces of international research assessing the link between children and pornography.

One UK study found that 80 per cent of young people believed watching porn “affected the way they had sex”.

It quoted other studies that found a relationship between explicit materials and “higher acceptance and engagement in sexually permissive behaviours” and “attitudes to sex that are casual and hedonistic rather than affectionate”.

It also found a link to under-age sex and the likelihood of smoking, consuming alcohol and taking drugs.

One Swedish study found a quarter of young people who “consumed pornography” had at least one sexually-transmitted infection, while a Dutch paper said: “Exposure to sexually explicit online films was significantly related to the belief that women are sex objects”.

The report also found a link between porn and “sexting”, when children take pictures of themselves and friends in explicit poses and pass them on via camera phones and social media.

This has been “argued to pose risks because the material can be used for bullying, maltreatment and exploitation”, the study said.

A Department for Education spokeswoman said: “Sex and relationship education is compulsory in maintained secondary schools – it is up to primary schools whether they teach SRE.

“We are strengthening the curriculum so that, from the age of five, children will be taught how to stay safe online. Schools can already teach children about the dangers of pornography provided all lessons are age-appropriate and follow the correct guidance.

“The UK Council for Child Internet Safety is already working with internet service providers to make it easier for parents to protect their children from harmful material online.”

Convicted sex offender – a school principal who identifies as “bisexual” – and the NZ Teacher’s Council register

May 22, 2013 by SPCS Leave a Comment

The Herald on Sunday reported on 1 August 2010. “A convicted offender is still registered on the New Zealand Teachers Council website despite being convicted for molesting boys in two different schools in the early 1990s…. Elvis Dobson Shepherd was suspended  on full pay in November 2007 after being charged with sexually abusing students at both Hato Paora (St Paul) College [at Chelterham in Feilding] and Hato Petera College [in Northcote] Auckland.”

[See: http://archive.teacherscouncil.govt.nz/rt/onlineregister.stm Reg. No. 177105. Mr Shepherd’s teacher registration was eventually cancelled and he was placed under “censure” after he was sentenced to a jail term of eight years and four months in September 2010. Just over two-and-a-half  years later he is now up for a parole hearing -reported two days ago 20/05/2013].

Stuff News reported on 31 July 2010, after a name suppression order for the sex offender was lifted:

“The sexual encounters between Elvis Dobson Shepherd and two teenage boys occurred while he was teaching and living at Hato Petera College, a Maori Catholic boarding school on the North Shore.

“The 49-year-old, [also known as Tihirau Shepherd], who identifies as bisexual, was also a student at the school before returning to teach te reo Maori in an experimental total immersion unit in 1989.”

The Herald on Sunday report stated:

“Elvis Dobson Shepherd was found guilty of four indecent assault charges against two teenagers in the High Court at Palmerston North on Friday [30 July 2010].

“The offences took place while Shepherd was teaching at Hato Petera College, a Maori Catholic boarding school on Auckland’s North Shore.

“Shepherd found employment at Maori boarding school Hato Paora near Palmerston North despite allegations of sexual encounters with boys at his previous post.

“Former Hato Petera trust board member Ashley Balls said Shepherd ‘deserted his post’ before the allegation was properly investigated. He then became deputy principal of Hato Paora in Feilding in 2002.

“Balls said he called Hato Paora to warn them about Shepherd’s past when he found information about the incident in the school files years later.

“But Hato Paora took no action and in 2007 two students came forward with allegations of sexual abuse. The school investigated, but found there was no case to answer.

“However, the Ministry of Education suspended Shepherd in November 2007.

But Balls said it was “odd” that the Teachers Council still had Shepherd listed on full registration. Balls described the situation as “political correctness gone mad”.

” ‘They couldn’t take the complaint to the Teachers Council because they hadn’t got anything provable’.

“Minister of Education Anne Tolley said she had complete confidence in the processes that would be followed by the Teachers Council to ensure Shepherd was never allowed in a classroom again. She said the Government also recently introduced much greater protection by passing data-matching laws which would mean this man would be identified if he ever sought employment at a school.

“In June, the Herald on Sunday revealed that three teachers who were sacked or quit over misconduct were still registered to teach on the official database that was supposed to warn parents and schools. The teachers kept their legal right to work in a classroom despite complaints to the New Zealand Teachers Council.”

Parole Board postpones hearing on sex offender – former school principal

May 22, 2013 by SPCS Leave a Comment

A former school principal imprisoned in 2010 for more than eight years for sexually abusing students could be released as early as August.

Elvis Dobson Shepherd, 52, was found guilty on two counts of sexual violation by oral sexual connection and two counts of indecent assault while he was teaching and living at Hato Petera College, a Maori Catholic boarding school on Auckland’s North Shore, in the early 1990s.

At the time of his sentencing in 2010, Shepherd was principal of Feilding’s Hato Paora College and was promoted to the position despite warnings from Hato Petera.

He was also charged with sexual abuse against Hato Paora students, but two separate juries could not reach verdicts in relation to some of the charges while he was found not guilty of others.

When sentenced Shepherd’s continued lack of remorse and denial of the proven charges was noted.

In a parole decision released to The Dominion Post,  the board noted there were still “question marks” over Shepherd’s insight into his offending.

“For example, the psychologist referred to his limited empathy for the welfare of the victims and an overemphasis on meeting his own needs, which were said to have been likely to have precipitated the offending.”

A psychological assessment report put Shepherd’s overall risk at medium low, with reference made to a lack of capacity for relationship stability, and deviant sexual preferences.

But a comprehensive proposal put forward by Shepherd and his whanau, which involved him completing the SAFE Programme for sexual offenders while in the community had merit, it said.

However, the address put forward for Shepherd to reside at had not been put to probation for consideration so could not be considered.

The Parole Board postponed its hearing until August 1 so Shepherd’s whanau could organise a hui with probation, the SAFE network and other interested parties so discussion could take place about the release proposal and his acceptance of the offending.

Jail for sex-abusing ex-Principal. By Bronwyn Torrie.  16/09/2010

Former Hato Paora principal Elvis Dobson Shepherd has been imprisoned for more than eight years for sexually abusing students at an Auckland school, yet he is still proclaiming his innocence.

The 49-year-old’s continued lack of remorse and denial of the proven charges was noted by Justice Robert Dobson in the High Court at Palmerston North yesterday.

Earlier this year, a jury found Shepherd guilty on two counts of sexual violation by oral sexual connection and two counts of indecent assault…

Justice Dobson said while Shepherd still denied the victims’ version of events, he accepted the essence of their evidence.

“I have to hold you accountable for the harm you have done to your victims and to the community.”…

The 49-year-old was sentenced to eight years and four months’ imprisonment in the High Court at Palmerston North yesterday for sexually abusing two teenage boys in the early 1990s.

His offending occurred while he was a teacher and dorm master at Hato Petera.

“Gay” ‘marriage’ shunned by “gays” as largely meaningless

April 20, 2013 by SPCS 2 Comments

In the Netherlands, the first country in the world to introduce “gay” ‘marriage’ on 1 April 2001, a Survey by Rutgers World Population Foundation, a centre of expertise on sexual and reproductive health and rights, suggests that about 500,000 people call themselves “gay”. Yet from 1 April 2001 to 2005, only 3% of them married (ref. 1).

This Figure of 3% and the decline in the numbers of same-sex ‘marriages’ (SSM) per year following that law change, strongly suggests that for 97% of Dutch “gays”, the institution of “gay” ‘marriage’ is largely irrelevant, unpopular and/or meaningless. In the 5th year (2005) such “gay” ‘marriages’ plummeted by 56% compared to those registered in 2001. From 2001 to 2002 the numbers dropped by 28%, from 2002 to 2004 by 33% and between 2004 and 2005 by 8%.

In the Netherlands registered partnerships were introduced in Dutch laws for “gays” on 1 January 1998, before SSMs. “Gay” marriage (SSM) was introduced into law later (2001) because these registered partnerships were seen to be legally deficient by “gays”.

New Zealand introduced civil unions into law in 2004 for “gay” couples seeking legal recognition, but they have proved to be very unpopular for “gays” who have demanded, and  now secured, on 17 April 2013, the right to be married in law in the same manner as heterosexuals.

If “gay” ‘marriage’ continues to be treated by “gays” in the Netherlands with the same contempt and/or disinterest as they treated “registered partnerships”, then the numbers of all such registered “gay” relationships will decline further to a point that these new ‘institutions’ could well go extinct like the dinosaurs.

In New Zealand civil unions have proved just as unpopular for “gays” as civil partnerships in the Netherlands, and also been criticised as meaningless and degrading by prominent homosexuals in the media, “gay” university academics and “gay” SSM lobbyists.

Ironically those who oppose the legalization of same-sex ‘marriage’ and seek to promote traditional (heterosexual) marriage are treated with contempt by many “gay” activists and the pro-“gay” media in New Zealand, who label them as dinosaurs, outdated and unable to adapt to the new ‘moral’ “gay” climate. However, such critics fail to recognise the Darwinian evolutionary principle of “survival of the fittest”: it is not the unfit (the sterile, the unnatural etc.) that survive!

Neither of the homosexual participants in “gay” ‘marriage’ can ever share together in any exclusive act of procreation via “gay” sexual activity. Their joint sexual acts are never orientated towards procreation. A “gay” couple can never together play any joint biological role in evolution. Their relationship differs fundamentally from a tradition marriage which involves a male and a female.

From 2001 to 2003 the population growth rate in the Netherlands had declined from 0.55% to 0.50% and by 2011 it had dropped to 0.38%. This decline was temporarily reversed in 2004 (0.50 to 0.58%). The possible correlation between these declines and the drive for SSM law is of interest to researchers (ref. 2).

“Gay” couples are unable to be biological joint-parents of any child as they cannot consummate their ‘marriages’ in the natural heterosexual act (sexual intercourse) which is fundamental to human procreation. It is only via in vitro fertilization, surrogacy or some other ‘technology’ that one partner of a “gay” couple can become a biological parent. The other same-sex partner may in law be designated as the second ‘mother’ (in the case of a lesbian couple) or ‘father’ in the case of a homosexual male couple; but neither such ‘mother’ or ‘father’ can be a biological parent to the child.

Definition of Population growth rate: The average annual percent change in the population, resulting from a surplus (or deficit) of births over deaths and the balance of migrants entering and leaving a country. The rate may be positive or negative. The growth rate is a factor in determining how great a burden would be imposed on a country by the changing needs of its people for infrastructure (e.g., schools, hospitals, housing, roads), resources (e.g., food, water, electricity), and jobs. Rapid population growth can be seen as threatening by neighboring countries.
