Censors protecting the “public good” from the morally toxic impact of the pornographers

November 16, 2010 by SPCS Leave a Comment

The Annual Report 2009/10 of the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) has just been released to the public. It highlights how censors have sought to protect the New Zealand public from the toxic, putrid and pernicious impact of, and exposure to – hard core pornography – such as the numerous DVDs imported from the United States by companies such as Auckland-based Eden Digital Ltd, directed by American-based businessman John Malcolm Carr.

The Herald of Sunday (“Ministry targets porn mogul” Steve Crow)  reported that $640,000 of sexually explicit porn DVDs  were transferred to John M Carr’s Eden Digital Ltd,  just prior to two of Steve Crow’s companies being put into liquidation. Titles cited by the reporter were both imported from the US where Carr resides. See:  http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10674407 19 Sept. 2010.

So many DVDs that Eden Digital has imported and submitted for classification have been deemed “objectionable” (i.e. banned) – for degrading sexually explicit content – that the Society wonders why the police, in consultation with NZ Customs, have not laid charges against its director John M Carr for the importation of “objectionable” publications from the US. The OFLC considers the banning of such material “a reasonable limitation on the freedom expression” to “prevent injury to the public good”. [Read more…]

John M Carr Profile and his Eden Digital Ltd Porn US-NZ Connection

November 15, 2010 by SPCS Leave a Comment

John M Carr Profile – The Society contends that those responsible for knowingly importing hard core porn into New Zealand for the purpose of distribution – porn that is deemed “ojectionable” by the NZ classification office – should face criminal charges in the Courts. The onus on such offenders should be to prove to the Courts that they were unaware that the material was “objectionable”, prior to importing it.  Unclassified publications should not be able to be imported into New Zealand that contain material of sexually explicit nature – material for example that promotes rape/sexual violence or the sexual degradation, demeaning and dehumanising of women etc.

John Malcolm Carr, director of the NZ registered company Eden Digital Ltd, resides in the United States, the country of origin of many of the DVDs containing sexually explicit content that his hardcore porn distribution company imports into New Zealand. See photos of director.

A significant number contain “a high degree of degrading, dehumanising and demeaning sexual conduct which, combined with the manner of presentation of this conduct, results in the women involved, and by extension women in general, being highly degraded, dehumanised and demeaned” (See: classification decisions www.censorship.govt.nz). Faith-Based Healing in NZ Prison for Inmates

November 13, 2010 by SPCS Leave a Comment

[John Bunyan wrote his great classic The Pilgrim’s Progress while he was in prison. It is an allegory of the Christian life that is inspiring many today in New Zealand prisons to seek after God through prayer and reading the Bible. Many are discovering how faith in Jesus Christ – His life, death and Resurrection – can bring them new spiritual life, peace, forgiveness from sin and eternal life].

Rimutaka Prison houses the only faith-based prison unit in the country. It opened in 2003 and is run by Prison Fellowship (PFNZ) an international Christian organisation that provides prison activities, restorative justice courses and post-release support. [Copies of Pilgrim’s Progress have been made available to many prisoners funded by the Society and its supporters].

The Dominion Post reports “The inmates are a motley crew of rapists, murderers, paedophiles and drug dealers; lifers and short-termers; Mobsters and Black Power.”

Computer South Ltd – A Dirty Money Depository – faces removal by Registrar

November 13, 2010 by SPCS Leave a Comment

Computer South Ltd is well overdue in its obligation to file its 2010 Annual Return that was due in April 2010. The Companies Office website (www.companies.govt.nz) carries a warning to the company stating:

“This company is now overdue in its obligation to file an annual return. If the annual return is not filed immediately the Registrar will initiate action to remove the company from the register.”

The Companies Office website document records show that it is directed by a Mr Peter Bruce Ibbotson, a plumber and long-term friend of convicted fraudster Michael Andrew Swann, who was appointed in 1997. All the Annual Returns for the company from 2003 to 2009 were filed on line by female employees of Checketts McKay (Wanaka). The 2001 and 2002 returns were filed by “Solicitors, Checketts McKay (Wanaka)”. One of its principals Iain Grant Fyfe held 33% of the company’s shares from March 1997 to 14 September 2006 and then 50% until 22 September 2006 when they were all transferred to Ibbotson.

The bank account of Computer South Ltd was where much of the $15.2 million Michael Swann defrauded from the Otago District Health Board, was deposited from 2000 to 2006. [Read more…]
