Labour Party to look at ‘fairly representing’ gay members in Parliament

September 27, 2014 by SPCS Leave a Comment

The 97th Labour Party conference held in Christchurch over the weekend of 1-3 November 2013 approved a remit that required its party list to “fairly represent” gays and lesbians among its selected candidates. The inference implicit in the wording of the remit was that the existing Constitution did not allow for a “fair” representation of such people on its party list.

The Conference delegates voted to delete Rule 293 of its Constitution which had stated:

“There shall be no barriers to nominees on the grounds of sexual orientation or marital status” Gender, ethnicity, age and disability are active criteria listed above.”

Unhappy with the comprehensive and perfectly adequate protections afforded its openly “gay” aspiring candidates – protections that are fully in harmony with the Human Rights Act 1993,  those seeking a more “pro-active” position on the advancement of gays and lesbians, rather than one based on merit alone, sought radical change to the Constitution. Big jump in money laundering reports

September 27, 2014 by SPCS Leave a Comment

MILLIONS of dollars in suspicious financial transactions, including some linked to child exploitation and drug dealing, have been reported under new anti-money laundering laws.

But police still cannot point to the number of arrests made or prosecutions launched as a result of the restrictive new regime installed in June 2013, or say how many of those reported as suspicious required more investigation.

In the first year of the Anti-Money-Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act being fully enacted, placing increased onus on banks and other financial institutions to detect suspicious transactions, almost 87,000 transactions worth $3.5 billion were reported to police.

In the previous year, before the law was passed, almost 12,000, worth $545 million, were reported.

Information released by police under the Official Information Act shows the suspicious transaction reports had “detected or contributed to [the] investigation of crimes including money laundering, drug dealing. large scale transnational fraud, abuse of trusts and companies and payments suspected to relate to child exploitation.

The size of the suspicious transactions reported in 2013-14 ranged from small sums to millions of dollars, averaging out at $40,400 a transaction. [Read more…]

Drug-resistant sex diseases now ‘endemic’

September 26, 2014 by SPCS Leave a Comment

Sexually transmitted diseases [STDs] brought under control last century could be coming back as new strains find ways to cheat antibiotic treatments, a report warns.

Research published in the New Zealand Medical Journal today charts the changing face of drug-resistant disease during the past two decades, and found resistance to a raft of infections has become “endemic”.

In Australia and Sweden, strains of gonorrhoea have become untreatable – a problem labelled an “urgent threat” by the United States Centres for Disease Control.

No-one has a true picture of infection rates in New Zealand because sexually transmitted infections, except Aids, are non-notifiable and monitoring is done voluntarily, mainly when people go to the doctor with symptoms.

Milk New Zealand Holding Ltd, its new Hong Kong owner and Lochinver sale

September 22, 2014 by SPCS Leave a Comment

Milk New Zealand Investment Ltd, a company based in the British Virgin Islands (BVI 1714180) and directed by Shanghai resident billionaire Zhaobai Jiang, until recently owned all the shares in the NZ registered company Milk New Zealand Holding Ltd (company no. 3883536). According to the New Zealand Companies Office website, as of 5 September 2014 all the shares are now directly owned by a Hong Kong registered company “An Yuan Dairy Ltd” which is recorded as having its registered office at:

Rm 1606,16/f, China Insurance Group Bldg, No. 139-141 Des Voeux Rd Central, Hong Kong.

This share transaction was first recorded on the NZ Companies Office website on 15 September 2014 by “authorised presenter” Mr Terry Lee of Auckland.

The Society (SPCS) has determined from the Hong Kong Register of companies that An Yuan Dairy Ltd is Hong Kong company number 2116560, and was incorporated on 7th July 2014 by Shanghai Pengxin Group Co. Ltd. An Yuan Dairy is not the same legal entity as Milk New Zealand Holding Ltd (Hong Kong) [“Milk NZ”], company number 1498348, which is also owned by Shanghai Pengxin Group Co. Ltd. It is the latter company’s NZ-registered subsidiary, Pure 100 Farm Limited, which the New Zealand Overseas Investment Office has recorded as currently seeking to purchase the Lochinver Station

An abortion case study – Charlotte Dawson

September 15, 2014 by SPCS 1 Comment

There is a certain unchained melancholy that grips our nation. It becomes more and more difficult to counter the harmful effects of abortion, or even have an alternative view expressed as our nation approaches the tipping point, a precipice from which it seems only a hasty retreat is possible. However, if at this point you throw your hands up in despair, you only join that Mexican wave of human depravity. The cynic might state; “you can’t stand up against a Mexican wave, if you do you only join them” . This was also the view of a certain prophet in the 8th Century BC who believed the nation of Nineveh was beyond redemption.  Three days and three nights in the belly of a large fish was subsequently enough to cure his lethargy. What will cure ours?

Charlotte Dawson (d. 22 Feb 2014) was not lethargic in taking on the cyber bullies that she says destroyed her career. Perhaps she is reminiscent of Joan of Arch who was burnt at the stake in 1431, dying at the age of 19 years.  Championing the war effort of France she was declared a martyr 25 years later by Pope Callixtus III. Perhaps dying at the age of 47 years, as a victim of cyber bullying, Charlotte Dawson will also later be counted a martyr. Certainly she has brought international attention to the “twitter trolls”. The story could end here with a declaration that any little you do will later have a larger effect- but within Charlotte’s story there is a stark account and case study of the harmful effects of abortion.
