A man has gone on trial in Napier, accused of impersonating a lawyer.
Brian Hunter, 54, faces two charges of obtaining by deception, both of which relate to his hiring of removal firms.
He is alleged to have told them he was a lawyer from the Kapiti Coast named Michael O’Hara, acting on behalf of a client called Brian Shaw.

“The former boss of a man with 150 convictions, including fraud, is considering whether he should complain to police about the misuse of a letter that ended up before the court.“Brian Damian Hunter, 53, was sentenced last year to six months’ home detention on six fraud charges.”Hunter’s latest offending saw him use the email header and footer of a lawyer in messages he sent to a woman about a property deal between March 2009 to January 2010.”His criminal records date back to a 1975 conviction for dangerous driving. Most of his convictions relate to frauds, including the use of 15 aliases to obtain credit from motels and rental car companies, and posing as a businessman to obtain property and credit.”
