How online porn is warping boys’ behaviour with girls

April 29, 2015 by SPCS 1 Comment

Sometimes you hear a story that is so awful, it refuses to leave your mind, no matter how fervently you beg it to go away. I was told one such story recently by a family doctor. Readers of a squeamish disposition, look away now.

I was having dinner with a group of women when the conversation moved on to how we could raise happy, well-balanced sons and daughters who are capable of forming meaningful relationships when internet pornography has changed the landscape of adolescence beyond recognition.

A couple of the women said they had forced themselves to have toe-curlingly embarrassing conversations with their teenagers on the subject. “I want my son to know that, despite what he might see on his laptop, there are things you don’t expect a girl to do on a first date, or a fifth date, or probably never,” said Jo.

A GP, let’s call her Sue, said: “I’m afraid things are much worse than people suspect.”

Note: One of the objectives of the Society (“SPCS”) found in section 2 of its constitution is:

(d) To focus attention on the harmful nature and consequences of sexual promiscuity, obscenity, pornography, violence, fraud, dishonesty in business, exploitation, abuse of alcohol and drugs, and other forms of moral corruption, for the purpose of moral and spiritual improvement. [Emphasis added]

Whoa, this is exactly what I predicted would happen.

I predicted several years ago that the current generation of young men that are feeding on addictive easy-access porn would eventually take out their “feels” on women. The strange irony is that women en masse and in positions of political power, have remained as silent as a house mouse during this time.

Where was the new women’s “temperance” movement? Over the past decade, while young men have been indulging, they have remained silent, failing to protest, doing nothing to stop the flow of porn into our homes. and now it is women that are paying the price.

I think the reason for this in actual fact is pretty simple. Our culture no longer believe in moral absolutes, except for the moral absolute that there are no moral absolutes. You can disagree, but if so then you are confusing absolutes with preferences. As Sartre pointed out, a finite point with no reference to the infinite leaves the finite point in a state of meaninglessness. We are the finite points; God is the infinite. Once God is rejected, objective morality is also logically rejected, leaving a vacuum that can only be filled with people in desire of power. In other words, objective God-given morality is now gone in our culture, and boys rather than showing moral restraint, are using their coercive power against girls. Welcome to the New Age.
