John Clancy: Global Homes group in strife as $4m Housing NZ deal in offing

Christchurch’s Global Developments (Waltham) Ltd has gone into liquidation, having built this block of flats at 60 Waltham Rd for Housing New Zealand.

Another Global Homes company has gone into liquidation, just as it was to complete a $4 million sale to Housing New Zealand (HNZ). [It was put into liquidation on 22/07/15]

Alex Swney declared bankrupt

Convicted fraudster Alex Swney was declared bankrupt today.

Last month he was jailed for five years and seven months for using false invoices to fraudulently obtain more than $2.5 million from the downtown Auckland promotion agency Heart of The City, which he had founded and led for

nearly two decades.

Swney was also found guilty of tax evasion, having avoided paying more than $1.7 million in taxes to Inland Revenue. Including penalties and interest, he was found to owe $3.8 million.

The bankruptcy – which had been sought by the IRD – is now in the hands of the Official Assignee, who will seek to recover funds for any creditors. [Read more…]

Mark Lawrence Ivil accused of defrauding others of $4.28 million since 1990

The Serious Fraud Office has laid charges against a man they say lived off millions of dollars fraudulently obtained from others.

Mark Lawrence Ivil , 58, was on Thursday charged in the Tauranga District Court with 21 charges of obtaining by deception, 14 of obtaining by false pretence, two of using a forged document and two of obstructing an investigation.

It’s alleged that from 1990 to 2014 he fraudulently obtained $4.28 million. [Read more…]
