Explicit sex class divides school

February 28, 2014 by SPCS Leave a Comment

A school trustee has quit and a family withdrawn their child in protest at an explicit sexual education programme at a West Coast primary.

Blaketown School trustee Jo-Anne Sim resigned this month over the “unacceptable” and explicit class, delivered to Year 7 and 8 pupils in December.

Ms Sim said the children were told about oral and anal sex, flavoured condoms, and pleasure points – despite parents being told in writing beforehand that pupils would be taught only the basics.

“Eleven, 12 and 13-year-olds don’t need to know this stuff. That’s why we’re mad,” said mother-of-two Ms Sim.

Her daughter told her some children had their hands over their ears because they were uncomfortable with the lesson.

“They were too scared to say ‘we don’t want to hear this.”‘

Act Leader Jamie Whyte stands by incest comments – NZ Herald

February 27, 2014 by SPCS 1 Comment

New Act Leader Jamie Whyte is standing by his comments that incestuous relationships between consenting adults should not be illegal and says it would be “intellectually corrupt” of him not to be honest when asked such questions.

In an article published on The Ruminatorwebsite, [see http://ruminator.co.nz/mr-ryght/] former philosophy lecturer Dr Whyte was asked whether the state should intervene if adult siblings wanted to marry each other.

“Well personally, I don’t think they [the State] should”, he replied, adding it was “a matter of almost no significance because it just doesn’t happen”.

Dr Whyte told the Herald his response was based on his belief that: “I don’t think the state should intervene in consensual adult sex or marriage, but there are two very important elements here – consensual and adult”.

“I wonder who does believe the state should intervene in consensual adult acts?”

He said he was “very opposed” to incest.

“I find it very distasteful I don’t know why anybody would do it but it’s a question of principle about whether or not people ought to interfere with actions that do no harm to third parties just because they personally wouldn’t do it.”

He did not believe the increased risk of congenital disorders in children from incestuous relationships was a valid reason for it to illegal.

” The probability of having some problem with the children is greater when the mother is over the age of 35 but I’ve never heard anyone suggest that anyone over the age of 35 shouldn’t be allowed to have sex.”

His view was not Act policy and “nobody who votes for Act has anything to fear”.

Dr Whyte who was elected Act Leader earlier this month but officially takes over from John Banks this weekend said he was not prepared to avoid difficult questions like that about incest as other politicians might.

“Maybe I should, but it seems to me the people who find ways around it and avoid it are being less virtuous than me… I would have to be inconsistent, I would have to be intellectually corrupt.”

Transparency International (NZ) past director – Michael Vukcevic – “a CV fraudster”

February 25, 2014 by SPCS Leave a Comment

High-level businessman’s CV false (Story by Phil Kitchin – Dominion Post 25/02/14)

The chairman of an influential business council with close links to the Government’s bid for a Middle East free trade agreement is a CV fraudster.

Fairfax NZ can reveal that Michael Vukcevic – head of the Auckland-based Middle East Business Council – falsely claimed to have a law degree from Victoria University.

Mr Vukcevic was also a director of anti-corruption agency Transparency International when he lied in his successful bid for the top New Zealand job at multinational law and patent firm, Baldwins.

The fraud will embarrass the firm, which was last year a finalist in the New Zealand Law Awards for a second year in a row.

It will also embarrass the Government because of the ties between the council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NZ Trade and Enterprise.

As chair of the Middle East council, Mr Vukcevic rubs shoulders with powerful figures from MFAT – including Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully.

Mr Vukcevic used the fictitious degree to become chief executive at Baldwins in 2012.

He resigned in November last year citing “personal reasons”.

Victoria University has confirmed Mr Vukcevic’s only qualification from Victoria was a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Mr Vukcevic has not responded to multiple approaches asking for an explanation.

His seven-page CV also includes a claim he was a director for a recruitment firm. That claim is also false.

When he was at Baldwins the company’s website claimed Mr Vukcevic was a “Registered Patent Attorney” in Australia and New Zealand but he does not appear on the registers for either country.

He also claimed to be a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand but he is not registered as either with the Law Society.

Mr Vukcevic’s CV describes him as a “dynamic Chief Executive with a proven track record of success.”

It says his experience is across large public and corporate companies, private companies and Government.

Under the education, the CV claims Mr Vukcevic obtained a law degree and a BA from studying at Victoria from 1989 to 1992.
