A Statement on Christian Marriage and Sexuality

February 12, 2014 by SPCS Leave a Comment

A Statement on Christian Marriage and Sexuality – in light of New Zealand’s Same-Sex Marriage Law.

[A statement crafted by Paul Davison, Senior Pastor of Hastings Baptist Church, New Zealand. Adopted by the congregations of Hastings Baptist Church & Howick Baptist Church, New Zealand. Both churches are registered charities]

  1. God made human beings as male and female to reflect his image within creation (Gen. 1:27). It is the complementary relationship of a man and a woman that is foundational to marriage in the created order (Gen. 2:23-24). The creation account affirms that monogamous heterosexual marriage expresses God’s will and purposes for his good world. [Read more…]

January 29, 2014 by SPCS Leave a Comment

Two Dunedin businesses have lost thousands of dollars to a gang of fraudsters targeting Dunedin’s Chinese business community, police say.

Among the fraud schemes used is approaching the owners of takeaway shops with a business proposition. The victims are then drawn into further contact with the fraudsters. [Read more…]

Charity too vital a concept to be manipulated by self-interest – Opinion Piece

January 20, 2014 by SPCS Leave a Comment

OPINION: When I was young, I was taught that charity was a good thing. My old clothes would be thrown into bins for children in Africa. I still feel sorry for the poor kid in Gambia or Togo who had to wear my awful purple nylon polo-neck skivvies, fawn flared slacks with a built-in elastic belt, and embroidered kaftans. But at least we knew what a charity was.

Today things are a little more confusing. Though the legislation covering charities is based on principles stretching back more than 400 years, some charities are occasionally deemed “non- charitable” by Charity Services, part of the Department of Internal Affairs, because they are seen as engaging in advocacy more than operating in the public good.

That is why Greenpeace and the Sensible Sentencing Trust are not registered charities. You may, like me, think that the National Council of Women is an excellent organisation that works in the public interest, yet until recently it did not qualify as a registered charity. But does it really matter if an organisation is registered or not? [Read more…]

Sexual perverts act as predators by ‘sextorting’ kids online

January 20, 2014 by SPCS Leave a Comment

Online predators are increasingly resorting to “sextortion” – blackmailing child victims into providing explicit images.

Internet safety watchdogs say they are seeing new trends in the methods used to extort kids as young as eight into sending pictures of themselves to perverts, who often masquerade as youngsters online. [Read more…]
