Michael Swann – convicted fraudster: Search for his assets – ‘labour intensive’

Police have identified more than 50 assets connected to convicted fraudster Michael Swann, with more outstanding assets likely.

Last week, more than $250,000 in assets were recovered from Mr Swann and forfeited by the High Court, including a 1922 Rolls-Royce, $92,475.42 in trust accounts, and a dirt bike.

Those assets join the 48 assets subject to confiscation orders by the court.

Kiwis bombard banned child-porn websites

Millions of Kiwis are bombarding blacklisted child-sex-abuse sites to request access to illegal videos and photos.

Experts say New Zealanders seeking child pornography are increasingly demanding younger victims and more violent abuse.

“Some people confuse these images as being virtual, but they are real images, they are crime scenes,” said Alan Bell, national director of ECPAT, which is dedicated to ending the commercial sexual exploitation of kids. [Read more…]

NZ’s Web Filter run by Department of Internal Affairs

NZ’S WEB FILTER

The digital child exploitation filtering system was introduced in March 2010 to make it more difficult to access child sex abuse images online.

Run by the Department of Internal Affairs, it blocks web users from accessing sites that are known to contain images or videos of child sex abuse. [Read more…]

Ex-prostitutes call for law change.

Former prostitutes and their advocates are calling for clients of sex workers to be prosecuted, saying the decriminalisation of the industry has failed them.

Freedom from Sexual Exploitation director Elizabeth Subritzky told Parliament’s justice and electoral committee the only solution to the damage that prostitution caused, and the violence it created, was to prosecute buyers of sexual services through a reform of prostitution laws. [Read more…]
