Dr Michael Flood, a senior lecturer in sociology at the University of Wollongong, is challenging the porn industry to move away from what he says are increasingly aggressive depictions of sex. He said porn was shaping social attitudes among young men, encouraging them to view women as sexual objects.
New Zealand pornographer Steve Crow said he agreed that pornography was becoming more extreme.
“But the market is demanding more and more extreme stuff. You can put the softer stuff out there, but people don’t buy it.”
Stephen (Steve) Peter Crow, a banned company director, argues that pornography was not harming society. “It’s a fantasy, that’s all it is.”

Interview with Steve Crow by Jonathan Eisen
JE to SC: “You’ve had several careers including …. publisher and porn king. Do you have any other goals other than making money?”
SC: Obviously making money is a primary goal in my life. I am very, very financially oriented….
JE: “Do you think pornography denigrates women and helps legitimise rape?”
SC: “I totally and utterly do not. Pornography liberates women. They control the porn industry. Without women there is no porn industry. The main players in the porn industry are women.”
JE: “Are you talking about the moguls or the models?”
SC. “Both.” …
