The Sunday News first broke the sordid news that the circulation of graphic sexually explicit images of Garth Stirrat in Steve Crow’s R18 magazines NZX and Brass Magazine had left his New Zealand Hotel Council bosses “at a loss for words”. Within one week of being appointed to the position of CEO of the NZHC, Mr Stirrat had resigned over the sordid and scanalous revelations concerning his past. However, the story of his involvement with Steve Crow and John M Carr’s hardcore porn publications, where he had posed under the name of “Steve Parnell” had just led to his resignation from a prior position he held for six years as CEO of the New Zealand Professional Golf Association, an incorporated society with about 300 members at the time. Hardcore porn involvement had forced Stirrat to resign from two top positions in quick succession, despite the fact that the Chief Censor Bill Hastings had approved the videos and magazines he ‘starred’ in, classifying them R18.
Steve Crow has offered huge amounts of money to entice men and women into acting as models and players in his hardcore porn publications. The New Zealand public has been appalled at the seemingly callous, hard-nosed business approach he takes in trying to financially entice young people, including poverty-stricken university students and pregnant women, into ‘starring’ in his sleazy porn shoots. Ignoring the devastating and detrimental impact records of such filming can play years down the track, once such published material surfaces, on the careers of young people, he marches on oblivious of the negative impact to the public good his material causes. Porn tycoons who indulge in such exploitative ‘work’ have been labelled everything from sex perverts, porn pimps, child pornographers and exploitative #### and more.
However, such criticism and insults serve only to boost the egos of pornographers who see themselves as icons to be admired for valiantly holding up the virtue of ‘freedom of expression’. Some even parade their own wives or girlfriends in public proud to have them fronting their hardcore porn promotions in a puerile attempt to sugar-coat the sleaze porn industry with a veneer of respectability. Touting themselves as credible because they were once school teachers, nuns, district beauty queens, or TV presenters, their antics are an embarrassment to any normal person.

“Garth Stirrat isn’t your everyday story. Stirrat had served for six years as the CEO of the New Zealand Professional Golf Association (NZPGA), until resigning earlier this year. Within the past couple weeks he started a new job as the head of the New Zealand Hotel Council. Now he’s resigned from that position as well. Why?
Because of some earlier “positions” he held. Using the alias “Steve Parnell,” Stirrat took part in some pornographic photo shoots and was a performer in a pornographic video shot in 2003 (while he was head of the NZPGA).”
