Facebook page accused of fuelling sexual abuse at Otago University – shut down

October 8, 2014 by SPCS Leave a Comment

A male-only Facebook page sharing photos of naked woman at Otago University and rating them has been shut down.

The “Rack Appreciation Society” page has prompted a battle of the sexes with female students starting their own awareness page title “Rake Appreciation Awareness”.

“Very, very explicit photos that were shown… left nothing to the imagination,” says Kate Buchanan of Rake Appreciation Awareness.

The page had up to 4000 followers before a group of girls found out about the site.

ONE News spoke to a 20-year-old student who says photos of herself had been posted on the page without her consent.

“They obviously thought it was a joke but it was pretty disgusting considering the caption said ‘rape’ which is pretty intense,” says the student who did not want to named.

Rape Crisis in Dunedin say they’ve received a worrying amount of calls from girls about the page.

“We’re talking about sexual abuse here. What is happening is sexual abuse,” says spokesperson Di Smith. [Read more…]

Sexual assaults in Australia and New Zealand more than double world average

February 14, 2014 by SPCS Leave a Comment

The rate of sexual assault in Australia and New Zealand is more than double the world average, according to a new report.

After several highly publicised rapes and murders of young women in India and South Africa, researchers from several countries  decided to review and estimate prevalence of sexual violence against women in 56 countries.

The results, published in the UK medical journal The Lancet, found that 7.2 per cent of women aged 15 years or older  reported being sexually assaulted by someone other than an intimate  partner at least once in their lives. [Read more…]

Sexual Abuse Services and other registered charities support Court of Appeal HIV + ruling

March 14, 2012 by SPCS Leave a Comment

Radio New Zealand’s Checkpoint programme has reported that Sexual Abuse Services nationwide are backing a Court of Appeal decision (KSB vs ACC) issued on Monday which ruled a woman had the right to ACC compensation for the mental stress suffered, after finding out a man she had been having unprotected sex with had HIV. He had failed to inform her [in the course of their four month relationship] that he had been diagnosed HIV-positive (“hiding HIV a sexual violation”).

There are at least ten separate charities registered with the Charities Commission that offer sexual abuse services.

Checkpoint included brief comments from the Chief Executive of Victim Support Sertvices and the National coordinator of the Rape Crisis Collective on the same matter and both stated clearly that their respective organisations are  backing the Court of Appeal ruling.

There are ten charities registered with the Charities Commission offering victim support services and seven registered charities in the Rape Crisis collective alone..

In total there are at least 30 charities registered with the Charities Commission working in the areas of sexual abuse prevention, rape crisis and victim support that have backed the Court of Appeal ruling. Only  one registered charity – The NZ Aids Foundation – has spoken out publicly against what has beeen described in the media as a “major precedent in NZ law” created by this Court of Appeal ruling. Dr James Dobson Interviews Serial Rapist and Murderer Ted Bundy hours before he is executed by electrocution

December 16, 2007 by SPCS 5 Comments

Ted Bundy explains step-by-step to clinical psychologist, Dr James Dobson, how his interest in soft-core porn led on to an addiction to hardcore porn and then on to a fascination for hard-core violent porn and how that helped fuel and crystallise his homicidal sexual fantasies leading to numerous horrific sex crimes and murders.

Bundy explains how repeated exposure to softcore porn can desensitise a person to hard core porn leading to porn addiction and he expresses his concern that other men exposed to the prevalent violent sexual content available in todays film and print media will be affected by such content as he was.

Theodore Robert ‘Ted’ Bundy (Nov 24, 1946 – Jan 24, 1989) raped and murdered scores of young women across the United States between 1974 and 1978. After more than a decade of vigorous denials, he eventually confessed to 29 murders, although the actual total of victims remains unknown.

Typically, Bundy would rape his victims, and then murder them by bludgeoning, and sometimes by strangulation. He also engaged in necrophilia. He was convicted of killing 36 women and girls.

Bundy was executed in the electric chair at Florida State Prison in Starke Florida.

He became a born-again Christian while he awaited execution on death row. He explains to Dr Dobson his deep sense of shame and remorse over his cimes and how, while in prison, he had found forgiveness for his sins through Jesus Christ and peace as he faced his “Valley of the Shadow of Death”.

Bundy recognised that he deserved to die and that it was a just sentence. He eventually cooperated with law enforcement agencies and disclosed all the details he could recall about all the homicides he was involved in.

Dr James Dobson says that “circumstantial evidence is overwhelming” from numerous studies that there is a link between hardcore violent porn and violent sexual behaviour. For example, an FBI study he cites involving 36 serial convicted murderers, revealed that 81% of them (29 out of 36) had a long-term and predominate interest in violent hardcore pornography.
